So… What is Bad Converseishon? First and foremost: una excusa para charlar y tomar algo ;)
This is a laid-back, community-led event where you can practice English in a relaxed, non-academic way, connect with locals and expats and in-betweeners, laugh at yourself.
Bad Convo is rooted in the wit and insights of Paige Nichols, the voice behind Bad Information podcast - a love letter to the country that drives us mad.
Your hosts
Paige Nichols (aka peish or página)
For the past 18 years, Paige has called Argentina home. Through her podcast, she explores the weird, wonderful chaos of life abroad, from therapy and tarot to diet trends, dating, and dog culture. Sharp, witty, and deeply observant, Paige brings her love-hate relationship with Argentina straight to the table (literally), turning cultural confusion into conversation, laughter, and shared insight.
Giuli Vallecorsa (aka Shuli, Guili, Guli, etc)
Founder and mastermind behind Las Argies. Translator, local insider, Buenos Aires expert, wine lover, reader, traveler, and cat mom. She brings the local lens to the conversation, helping translate cultural codes, decode habits, and throw in a joke when needed.
This month's topic:
LA ARGENTINIDAD
This month's Bad Converseishon falls on June 20th, Día de la Bandera, and right as Argentina makes its World Cup debut. So we're going there. For this special episode, Giuli joins Paige on the Bad Information podcast to ask the question that's been living in our heads: Is being Argentine having a moment?
Post-2022, something shifted. Messi made the whole world want to be Argie for five minutes. The diaspora became an exportable brand. The asado, the mate, the lunfardo.
We'll dig into what nationalism actually means, and whether it means the same thing in Argentina and the US. Why does the World Cup make Argentines visceral, united, briefly post-ideological? And how does that compare to how estadounidenses experience (or don't experience) the same thing?
